Cu siguranta cea mai mare atractie a masivului sunt cele aproape 100 de lacuri glaciare (58 lacuri permanante si 40 lacuri temporare). Printre acestea se lacul cu cea mai mare supafata din Romania,\u00a0Bucura (8.8ha), respectiv cel mai adanc lac Zanoaga (29m) si unul dintre cele mai inalte lacuri glaciare din Romania, Taul Portii (2230m).<\/p>\n<p>Pe langa lacuri varfurile masivului dintre care Peleaga si Papusa depasesc 2500m ofera in zilele cu vreme buna o panorama\u00a0 superba asupra masivelor invecinate.<\/p>\n<p>Mai mult zona este protejata inca din anul 1935,\u00a0 fiind primul parc national din Romania iar din anul 1980 Retezatul este listat ca si rezevatie a biosferei. Acest lucru a contribuit la pastrarea unui habitat relativ intact motiv pentru care turistul inca poate vedea in Retezat mari paduri de jneapan, Zimbru, flori de colt, capre negre, marmote,
